on location.

Today I want to share a great location with you. It’s an old brickyard (obviously) no longer in use. The location is great on an UrbEx scale.

The big problem is vandalism. The old factory is cluttered with graffiti – which would not be the problem. Quite the opposite is true – it gives the old yard a really great atmosphere.

But people keep on destroying everything what’s left from the old factory. There’s almost nothing left but litter.

The location is still amazing, but I think you have to stage a scene if you want to take amazing pictures there. So this is more something like a test shot. Scouting on location so to speak.

If you come up with great ideas or scenarios just let me know! :)

    wow what a great location!
    I like the sunglow!
(wonder if it took much postprocessing?)
did you used some HDR-technique? if so: WELL done, because
    not too noticeable

I’m curious to know where the old factory is, would
be a great photowalk location *blinkblink*

well, yes – I started off with a tonemapping of 4 different exposures of the factory.
(an averagely bad exposed picture can be seen here: http://twitpic.com/1sqfkx/full)

Whenever I use HDR/DRI techniques I try to get a well balanced, evenly lit image with soft contrasts – I would even call it a bit “dull”.
(here you see the picture after the tonemapping: http://twitpic.com/1sqe1d/full
have a look at the histogram)

That’s where I start and try to bring contrasts and light back into the picture WHERE I THINK it fits best.
As you can see, the sunglow never has been that strong. ;)

That’s how I get this “dramatic” look.
      Hope this helps :)

ps: unfortunately the factory is located in Germany …
